Established in India in 1990, the Institute of Directors (IOD), is a national association of Corporate Directors, registered under the Societies Registration Act, XXI of 1860. It has been instrumental in shaping a cadre of business leaders equipped to navigate the complexities of our economic landscape. Through its various educational programs, training initiatives, events, and advocacy for best practices, IOD contributes significantly to the development of a leadership cohort that understands the symbiotic relationship between responsible governance and economic prosperity.
Over the last 35 years, IOD has been pioneering a silent revolution within the Boardroom, as India's leading organisation for directors. Currently, IOD is associated with around 31,000 senior executives from Government, Public and the Private sectors of India and abroad.

IOD launched the portal for IOD Directors Databank, in 2013. It is an empanelment portal; through which IOD maintains a panel of qualified directors.

Golden Peacock Awards, instituted by the Institute of Directors (IOD), India in 1991 and in July 29, 1994 Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, Bharat Ratna was the first IOD Distinguished fellow.
